Q&A with the Artist Tell us how your work is made. My work honors the traditions of Goldsmithing while being fresh, modern, and new. Each piece is made by my hands in my studio in Monterey County.
What makes you passionate about the medium you work with? By layering ancient techniques I achieve texture combinations that are of my own invention. Gemstones are chosen to echo what my tool marks achieved in metal, thus creating an organic yet urban aesthetic that is both calm and striking.
What is something unique about you or your practice? My career in metals, melding an aptitude for small scale work and interest in design, started with an informal apprenticeship. It catapulted me into the world of goldsmithing. Entering my education in the metal arts field, I attended Staatliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau, which followed a BAUHAUS -style curriculum, combining classical training in the trade of Goldsmithing with drafting, drawing and design. After graduation, I worked side by side with a certified master jeweler. 3 decades have passed in which I have aimed to create pieces of jewelry of lasting style that harmonize with the human form with ease and elegance.
