Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I hand blow all aspects of my work in a tradition glass blowing method.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I learned stained glass at 10 years old, which took me to blown glass in my teens, and then I studied under Marvin Lipofsky in California in my 20s. Inspired by small glass studios I saw in Europe, I started my own first studio in 1988 in Chicago and have been making glass ever since.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

The scale, the fact I work primarily solo, and that my signature large vessels are mostly two sections (lidded vessels). Some people are surprised by the Slavic names many pieces have, inspired by work and travel in Eastern Europe.
