About The Artist

Most of my life I have been an artist in some form or fashion, I even make my living as a graphic designer and illustrator. However in late 2016, I became interested in stone carving and began learning all I could about the art form. Through the years I have acquired new skills, just adding wood carving to my repertoire in the past year. The natural world inspires me and my work in so many ways. I draw unrivaled creative satisfaction from the process of revealing the hidden beauty and flaws within a chunk of raw stone, and creating a form that compliments those elements.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

My works are carved and shaped using a combination of hand tools (chisels, mallets, gouges) and power tools, then sanded and polished by hand. Mixed media wood and stone works are joined using dowel pegs and glue.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

The natural materials and the beautiful patterns, colors and flaws all contribute to the overall aesthetic. Wood and stone carry with them thousands of years of history and each piece holds completely unique qualities.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

In my work I routinely merge contrasting materials such as wood and stone that compliment one another.
