Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I am using Porcelain as a clay body with combined hand-building and wheel-throwing with multi-layered under-glazes and glazes on the surface.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

A huge part of how I work is thinking about how we feel or show emotions physically. I want to create an environment or situation for the body with materials that transform over time. The material becomes the subject as well as object; a record of the movements of the act of making. In my recent work, I have been concentrating on the playful vessel forms with electric color palette and illustrated drawing based on my childhood memory. Childhood memories and experiences have developed aspects of who I am now. When I was little, I was able to adapt to my surroundings as play areas can be anywhere. Also, living in different cities and countries during childhood has taught me social, independence, survival, creative, and imaginative skills.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

Creating a story with clay is part of the process of expression, as the repetitive motion of layering can be compared to the act of communicating ideas about intersectional themes such as race, gender, sexuality, history, and politics.
