I have been making clocks for more than 35 years. My current line of wall and desktop clocks incorporates painted and natural woods, lots of patinated copper, stainless steel and other metals. I love combining geometric shapes in exciting new ways. I grew up in NYC, one of the most vibrant cities, and now live amid the richness of the forest and the mountains of the mid Hudson Valley. All of that informs what I do. I'm just as likely to be inspired by a piece of wood's natural grain as by the shape of a modern lamp. Inspiration is everywhere when you're open to it.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I create a clock design and we bring in parts and raw materials from all over the country. Here at the studio lots of sanding, painting, patination and assembling takes place. All the finished clocks are hung and tested before being wrapped and shipped all over the planet. All the clocks are guaranteed to function.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I was blessed to grow up with art all around me. I took all kinds of art classes as a child. I was lucky enough to attend the High School of Art and Design in NYC where I majored in illustration, all the while attending Ceramics classes in the West Village. When I attended SUNY New Paltz I took as many of the different kinds of art studio classes I could- ceramics, painting, sculpture, metals, printmaking and photography. Eventually, I became a ceramics major because a studio choice had to be made. One day in my senior year I was told by my clay professors that they were going to clean my studio space out with a big magnet. My love for mixed media had begun! I am so thankful to have gotten such a well rounded art education. I am still learning new things, and expect I will be until the end of time. Yes, pun intended.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I think a major appeal of my work is that it is beautiful, unique, and it has a guarantee to function. I love fusing geometric abstraction with softened edges and organic warmth. It's the city/ country girl in me.
