About The Artist

Bruce has his BFA from CCAC; Dari has her BFA from Tyler School of Art. We started our hot glass studio in Oakland CA in the 80's where we continue to make our work. We make handblown art glass vessels, as well as sculpture, wall art, lighting, jewelry and mosaics; all with glass and some with mixed media. We use many different techniques in our works, that we have learned or developed over the years.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

We start our blown pieces with molten clear glass, onto which we apply layers of colored glass; many different techniques are then employed within these layers of color and clear to create the final images on each unique vessel. The wide bands of color on many of our works are done in the Incalmo technique. We strive to create a visual balance with each form, its transparency, color and its imagery.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Glass is beautiful by nature, its possibilities endless. It can be formed, transformed and shattered into a thousand pieces. What material could be a better metaphor for life? Glass enabled me to experience the joy of taking risks, the thrill of the unexpected.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

We have developed our own decorative techniques by combining traditional Italian techniques with a modern interpretation; many of our works have a painterly feel to them.
