About The Artist

My jewelry is a tactile expression of the patterns and colors seen in everyday life. Nature or city; patterns abound around us generating serenity, excitement, mystery and more. Using traditional silver fabrication and stone setting, metal clay and Korean keum boo, I hand build jewelry softly beautiful in its patterned detail. My goal is for you to experience the discovery and excitement I felt in the creation of each piece.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

Each item is handmade by me using traditional silver smithing techniques and metal clay. I may use stones and often add gold added using the keum boo method. Silver construction can give strength and metal clay gives me an organic pattern. Silver, gold and stones: they offer infinite possibilities.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Transforming flat sheets of silver, wire, and lumps of clay into jewelry that adds beauty to the world and joy to its wearer is a fascinating, fulfilling process. Each time it is new and yet, grounded in past knowledge and accumulated skill. There will always be more to learn and ways to build on the past. I know I will never tire of this creative process.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I worked as a Laboratory Scientist for many years and often people view this 'left brain' discipline as contrary to the more artistic nature of jewelry making. However, I find that the 2 disciplines are complementary to each other. Dealing with laboratory results for patients requires a commitment to quality and shouldn't jewelry be as well made as possible? What is soldering, keum boo, and patina if not science? Laboratories perform procedures in a specific order. Don't we jewelers do the same? I feel that my jewelry combines both disciplines and is beauty arising from a plan!
