About The Artist

Rebecca Zink • Indianapolis, IN
Jewelry • WHOLESALE AVAILABLE

I challenge the idea of value by bringing blue-collar materials into jewelry. By highlighting them against precious materials, I reveal their beauty. With techniques influenced from a shop environment, I emphasize the contrast in materials. Through these juxtapositions I create dialogue that rivals the beauty seen in any jewelry store.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I hand fabricate all of my work. I use traditional metalsmithing techniques but also look to my time at SIU Carbondale where the blacksmithing department strongly influenced my jewelry work through the application of industrial processes and materials alongside fine metals. I have also developed my own techniques for the broken silver and broken steel processes as well.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I love working with different metals and embracing their different properties to create my work. Each metal has a tendency to behave certain ways when being worked, and I find that to be incredibly interesting.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I use unconventional processes to achieve the results I am looking for. I break metal, use industrial tools (plasma cutters, welders, etc), and pair uncommon metals together.
